Thanks to Engaging Volunteers, VolunteerMatch’s informative and focused blog, for starting Google calendar with dates and ideas for motivating volunteers throughout 2012. You can download the calendar by clicking on the tiny “Google Calendar” button at the bottom of the calendar on their blog post, but then you cannot add your own events. So, we think the better way to use this this calendar is to click through the calendar (using the blue arrow in the top right-hand corner) and grab the specific events in which you are interested. Here’s how:  Click on a specific event (such as Black History Month) and click on “Add to my calendar.”  If you do not have a Google calendar, you will need to set one up first. Don’t worry, Outlook users! You can then import the calendar into Outlook by following these directions.  Of course, the trusty, old paper planner is a safe bet for some of you, but it won’t email you reminders in advance of the event. ;o)

Add More Events
Now, you can continue to add even more volunteer management related events and those specific to your organization.  There are more Special Days/Weeks Related to Volunteerism on the Energize, Inc. Web site, including international events as well if you are outside of the U.S.: Worldwide | North America | Outside North America

Youth Service America’s Service Wire does a nice job of maintaining a service-related calendar at well, especially for youth engaging organizations.
