We Want You! . . . To Submit Your Reviews
Hello! If you’ve been a long-time, or a particularly observant follower of the Energize Book Blog, then you may have noticed that the last couple blog posts have been by somebody new: me! I’m Tristan, and I’ve been with Energize now for about four months. I’m taking this moment to introduce myself, because, as the new Bookstore Manager here at Energize one goal I have is to make the bookstore more reflective of our buyers and readers.
Chances are, if you’re checking out the Energize Book Blog, then you’ve probably already read some of the books available in our online bookstore. But, did you know that you can also leave your own comments and reviews for each book?
This is your chance to recommend one of your favorite books on volunteer management. Better yet, use a review as a way to talk about one of your organization’s major accomplishments, and how a book aided in achieving it.
In upcoming months, our bookstore homepage will be featuring books readers recommend, along with your reviews. It’s a great opportunity for peer reactions both to classics and new books in our ever-expanding world of volunteer management writings.
Here are a two examples of recent reader reviews:
About From the Top Down:
Why should you [the director of volunteers] read this book? As a middle manager you need to sell the “Whys” of the volunteer program…Executive directors are constantly thinking vision, mission and execution of the entire organization, and they should. But so often they aren’t thinking about volunteers…Enter you. To increase the impact of volunteers on your organization, you need to sell them…I would recommend that you get this book, read it and develop your short and powerful presentation—ten really cool essentials that volunteers bring to your organization.

About Visionary Leadership:
As one who has heard many of these speeches in person, I reveled in the retelling, in the rereading. Marlene’s body of work challenges us in the profession of volunteer administration: we are prodded to excellence, to improvement, to soul-deepening, to servant-leadership. For those who have not connected with Wilson‘s speeches before, what a wonderful gift of wisdom she has given you! Your way of looking at your vocation will never be the same! This book restores hope, prompts to excellence, invites reflection and rouses energy.
—Suzanne Lawson, Principal of Suzanne Lawson and Associates and
former Executive Director, ALS Canada
